The Wildwoods Named Top Tourist Town in the Northeast
Media Kit The Wildwoods, NJ - Readers of FamilyFun magazine, published by the Walt Disney Publications, named Cape May/Wildwood as the top tourist town in the Northeast in the April 2002 issue of the magazine.

FamilyFun reported that 3,788 subscribers completed the magazine's Travel Award survey. The Cape May/Wildwood award for 'tourist town' edged out Lancaster, PA., Bar Harbor, ME, Lake Placid, NY, and Newport, RI.

FamilyFun's April issue was dedicated to family travel and lists the nation's 44 favorite vacation spots. The magazine also lists 'The Jersey Shore' among the top five beach destinations in its region.

The magazine has a monthly circulation of more than 1 million, giving the Wildwoods a boost of positive media exposure.

'This was totally unexpected,' explained John Siciliano, Executive Director of the Greater Wildwood Tourism Improvement and Development Authority, the public relations and advertising organization for the resort of the Wildwoods. 'Now the entire country will know what all of the people who have visited us know ' that the Wildwoods offer visitors great, fun-filled and affordable vacations.'

FamilyFun reported that its readers were won over on the Cape May/Wildwood area because of the area's boardwalks, arcades and shops & reasonable lodging rates and the clean family beaches.

While Cape May and the Wildwoods are separate resorts with their own distinctive styles, Siciliano points out that sharing the award with Cape May is to be
expected because Cape May and the Wildwoods serve as perfect complements to each other. 'We are fortunate to have a Victorian resort like Cape May so close to us,' said Siciliano. 'It is an added attraction we can offer to people staying in the Wildwoods, and the Wildwoods provide a wonderful extra feature to people visiting Cape May. Together, we present a destination that gives families a variety of activities, amenities and events.'

The 'Family-Friendly Travel Award' from FamilyFun Magazine will result in thousands of inquiries of Wildwoods vacations and will help convince thousands of families to take a summer vacation in the area, according to Siciliano.

'Being named in this national family-oriented magazine is publicity we couldn't pay for,' said Siciliano.

Moreover, local tourism officials are expecting another solid tourism season as the result of a general public aversion to air travel in the wake of the events of Sept. 11 and increased airport security precautions.
