Wildwood, Wildwood Crest and North Wildwood Grab Top Spots Among New Jersey's Best Beaches
Wildwood, NJ, May 23, 2008 - The Wildwoods are all smiles!

Wildwood, Wildwood Crest and North Wildwood took 1st, 2nd and 4th place in the 2008 New Jersey's Top Ten Beaches survey announced Thursday by the New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium (NJMSC). Cape May County beaches claimed seven of the top ten rankings.

In addition to the Top 10 rankings, Wildwood Crest was named Best Beach for Family Vacations and Wildwood was named Best Beach in the categories of Tourism
and Events.

"The survey confirms what our visitors have been telling us for decades, that the Wildwoods' beaches are second to none, and best of all, they're free," said John Sicialano, executive director of the Wildwoods Tourism Authority. "New Jersey has a 127-mile coastline of excellent beaches from top to bottom. We are honored to be named the best among them, and thank the public for their support."

The survey, compiled throughout the spring by NJMSC working in conjunction with New Jersey Sea Grant, the Richard Stockton College Coastal Research Center and the New Jersey Division of Travel and Tourism, collected thousands of on-line votes from New Jersey seashore residents and visitors. The survey determined the public's opinion of the Top Ten Beaches in the state, along with the best beach in categories of Ecotourism, Family Vacation, Tourism and Events. The communities received a commemorative sign denoting the award for display to the public.

Long renowned as the gem of vacation destinations of the Jersey Shore, more than nine million visitors flock to the Wildwoods every year, taking advantage of New Jersey's largest - free - beach, cavorting along its two-mile Boardwalk and enjoying an abundant array of fishing and water related recreational activities, great golfing, innumerable shops and restaurants, `50s era "Doo-Wop" architectural tours and more than 175 festivals and events to entertain young and old throughout the year.

The public Best Beach poll was the first ever taken by NJSMC. The organization, has researched the state's beaches since 1986 to calculate sand volume changes and the topographic profiles of the dunes, beach and seafloor to a depth of 12 feet along the Atlantic Ocean coastline, Delaware Bay and Raritan Bay, utilizing the findings to provide regional information on coastal zone changes and long term trends. This year the scientific data and public survey are being combined to obtain the results, with the public's portion ultimately deciding which beaches are the best.

Now it's official - you're not going to find a better beach than in the Wildwoods. It's nice to confirm what resort residents and visitors have known all along.
