The Wildwoods Convention Center Named Winner of SportsEvents Magazine’s 2015 Readers’ Choice Award for Top Venue in NJ
The Wildwoods, NJ – January 16, 2015 – The Wildwoods Convention Center was named as a 2015 Readers’ Choice Award winner for Top Venue in New Jersey by SportsEvents Media Group, publisher of SportsEvents Magazine, the leading industry publication focused exclusively on helping sports event planners produce excellent competitions in the United States.

Sports event professionals were asked to nominate destinations and sports venues that they believe display exemplary creativity, hospitality and professionalism toward the groups they host. Nominations were received from readers throughout the year, and the top picks were selected based on results from an online voting system.

The Wildwoods Boardwalk Basketball Classic also took home an award fromSportsEvent Magazine for Sports Event to Watch in 2015. The annual event was recognized for exceeding expectations of participants, fans and officials.

“We are thrilled to be named a winner of two SportsEvents Magazine's Readers Choice Awards and grateful to be recognized for the hard work and dedication of our Convention Center staff, along with all of our supporting partners, who have helped make the Wildwoods Convention Center a premiere sports destination venue,” said John Siciliano, executive director for the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority (GWTIDA).

The annual Boardwalk Basketball Classic Tournament was founded in 1998 to raise college scholarship money for graduating seniors of the two high schools that host the tournament – Wildwood and Wildwood Catholic. Boys and girls teams from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia compete in December of each year in the Wildwoods Convention Center in what has become the largest single-venue coed high school basketball tournament in the country. The 2014 tournament hosted over 70+ different girls’ and boys’ high school basketball teams from New Jersey and other surrounding states. The Boardwalk Basketball Classic is strictly a not-for-profit event and has raised over $275,000 in scholarship money since its inception. The tournament’s committee is made up strictly of volunteers from the local community.

The Wildwoods Convention Center is a unique, state-of-the-art, 260,000-square-foot facility offering one of the most spacious, flexible, innovative and inviting locations for indoor sporting events. The flexible indoor venue space lends itself to hosting all types of sporting events year-round and in any type of weather, with an emphasis on youth sports. The venue hosted nearly two dozen sporting events and tournaments in 2014 – ranging from Wrestling, Cheerleading and Basketball, to Gymnastics, Futsal and Floor Hockey competitions. The adjacent beach and ocean expand the venue’s offerings in a way that no other similar venue can – as the sandy beaches are transformed into Soccer, Lacrosse and Frisbee tournament fields.

In 2014, the Wildwoods Convention Center also received another major honor from one of the country’s most popular convention magazines – Facilities Magazine – as the venue was named a recipient of the publication’s prestigious ‘Prime Site’ Award. The Convention Center received the same award in 2011. The venue was selected for its unique location overlooking the sandy-white Wildwoods beaches combined with the facility’s spacious exhibit halls and outstanding customer service.”
