All proceeds of the event benefit Gift of Life Family House in Philadelphia, PA, which serves as a home away from home for transplant patients and their families by providing lodging, meals, transportation and supportive services to those who travel to Philadelphia for transplant-related care.
The David Nelson Jr. Memorial Fund is a charitable 501(c)(3) dedicated to providing educational scholarships to children of organ and tissue donors. The fund also creates and actively participates in organ and tissue donor awareness programs to assist people in making informed decisions about the importance of organ and tissue donation.
Gift of Life Family House serves as a home away from home for transplant patients and their families by providing affordable lodging, meals and supportive services to those who travel to Philadelphia for transplant-related care. It is the only hospitality house in the U.S. that provides services to multiple transplant centers.
In 2018 alone, the Family House guests traveled to Philadelphia from 27 states throughout the country.
In 2018, Gift of Life Family House provided 10,025 lodging nights for care for 17,594 guests, 35,188 meals, and 1,144 rides to and from hospitals.
In 2018, its occupancy rate was 91.51 percent, which meant that many nights the House was at its full capacity. the Family House is now undergoing a renovation to create two additional guest rooms for families in need of a place to stay.
Since its founding July 2011, the Family House has:
o Served more than 224,000 meals
o Provided more than 61,000 lodging nights of care
o Provided mover 10,400 trips to and from the hospital
The Family House has provided more than $8.5 million in subsidized care to its guests.
