With over nine million visitors flocking to the Wildwoods every year to enjoy the FREE beaches, exciting 2 ½-mile Boardwalk, and wide selection of fun and family-friendly activities to see and do, the Wildwoods continue to be one of the safest places to visit in New Jersey.
John Siciliano, Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement & Development Authority (GWTIDA) executive director/CFO addressed recent reports published regarding the Wildwoods’ crime statistics.
“The City of Wildwood is home to roughly 5,000 full-time residents; but during the height of the vacationing season, the population swells to hundreds of thousands of visitors daily, with an estimated 9 million people visiting the Wildwoods each year. Often crime statistics reported are based on our small residential population numbers and do not account for this seasonal influx in population. Statistics in terms of visitor population and influx should also be mentioned in these reports, which would then provide a more balanced and realistic assessment of the actual crime statistics,” he said.
The City of Wildwood’s Police Chief, Robert Regalbuto, recently emphasized the proactive approach that police officers island-wide take in order to maintain the safety of both residents and visitors, especially when the population increases over the course of the tourist season and shoulder seasons.
“Visibility is key, and our well-trained foot and street patrols are in full force to deter crime and reassure residents and visitors that our resort is a safe place to live and vacation,” said Chief Regalbuto.
