The Wildwoods, NJ – May 27, 2024 – The Wildwoods Boardwalk is now open. During the early morning hours today, Monday, May 27, the City of Wildwood Police Department declared a state of emergency and temporarily restricted access to the Boardwalk to ensure the safety of residents and visitors. The state of emergency was a proactive measure that was lifted a few hours later, and the Boardwalk has since reopened.
Although there were no major incidents reported, the measure was taken by the City of Wildwood Police Department to give them another tool they could use to control any crowds of young people from gathering. Due to the issues at other Jersey Shore beach towns and other Mid-Atlantic beach destinations, the Wildwood Police Department deemed this action to be a necessary precaution as a pre-emptive measure to enforce the existing teen curfew and to ensure order. The restricted access to the Boardwalk was very effective in enforcing the curfew and preventing any potential incidents from occurring.
“We are deeply appreciative of the Police Departments of the Wildwoods for their proactive and diligent efforts to ensure the safety of our residents and visitors. The highly qualified team of officers both on the Boardwalk and throughout the island will continue to enforce the law rigorously. They are committed to ensuring the safety of our community,” stated Louis M. Belasco, Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority Executive Director.
