In America’s 250th year, a back-bay food tour stops at restaurants that have been part of this shoreline for 10, 44, and 61 years
WILDWOOD, NJ — June 23, 2026 — Sandbar Joe’s launched season two of Joe’s Famous Floating Food Tour this week, a guided on-water experience moving guests through the back bays of the Wildwoods with stops at some of the most enduring waterfront dining spots along the Jersey shore.
The tour departs from 26th Street in North Wildwood and follows a route through the back bay, stopping at local restaurants and vendors along the shoreline. Guests experience each stop in the order the route unfolds — the food arriving with the bay behind it, the light shifting, the movement of the water underneath.
The tour runs with daily departures through the summer season.
In a year when the country is marking 250 years, the 2026 tour draws its character from three Wildwood institutions that have been serving this shoreline far longer than most. The Surfing Pig is celebrating its 10th anniversary. The Wharf — a waterfront staple since 1982 — marks 44 years. And Britton’s Bakery, opened in 1965 and now in its 61st year, joins the floating food tour for the first time this season. These are not new names. They are the places that have been here, and the 2026 tour is built around them.
“The food tour works because our waterfront establishments have something worth tasting,” said Joe Gratz, founder of Sandbar Joe’s. “The bay is what makes it distinct — you’re not just eating, you’re sitting on the water in front of places that have been part of this town as mom and pop generational establishments for decades. There’s real heart here.”
Public departures accommodate up to six guests. Private group bookings are available for up to nine.
