The Wildwoods, NJ – July 6, 2023 – Bike riding is a favorite pastime at the Jersey Shore, and no town seems to do biking better – or offer more options on where to bike or how – than the Wildwoods. The Wildwoods have coined the word ‘Bikeability’ to capture all of the amazing opportunities for biking.
Bicycle Rentals of All Kinds
Don’t worry if you had to leave your bikes at home to make room for your beach chairs! Bikes of all kinds and associated equipment can be rented at reasonable rates from many bike shops throughout the Wildwoods – and most open at 6 a.m. for those interested in an early Boardwalk biking excursion. If it’s on two or more wheels – you can likely rent it here in the Wildwoods!
The newest addition to bike rentals in the Wildwoods is electric bikes, or e-bikes. With minimal pedal power, you can travel for miles on a single charge and hardly break a sweat! For the more traditional cyclist, there are a variety of two-wheeled bicycles, including single-speed or multi-speed cruisers for adults in 24” and 26” heights; and the fun-to-ride fat bikes, along with traditional models. Adult trikes are also available – for a fun ride that’s a bit less risky than two wheels.
Biking with the kids? The rental shops have you covered with kids’ bikes, with and without training wheels, in 16” and 20” heights, along with Tag-Alongs, child seats, and trailers that attach to any adult bike, for those too young to pedal on their own.
Another great family option are surreys. Whether your group is small or large, surreys in single, double, and triple sizes will accommodate a party of 3, 6, or 9 adults, plus 2 small children, respectively.
Couples are also in for some fun – with the option to rent a 2-seater tandem bike; and adventurers will want to try zipping around, low to the ground, on the sporty Lowriders.
Most rentals include helmets and locks, and offer affordable hourly, daily, overnight, and weekly rates. Some rental shops also offer delivery to your hotel or vacation rental front door. No matter what you’re looking for, the many convenient bike rental shops throughout the Wildwoods will be sure to give you exactly what you need!
Bicycle Routes
Once you’ve selected your ride, it’s time to choose a route. From a lengthy and scenic bike path to bike lanes along popular roads, to biking along the boardwalk, there are many ways to enjoy the Wildwoods on two, three or four wheels.
A FREE bike route runs nearly the entire length of the five-mile island, beginning at Rambler Road in Wildwood Crest. The bike path stretches from the Wildwood Crest Dunes Bike Path, up onto the Wildwoods Boardwalk to North Wildwood’s Mulberry Bike Path, to the North Wildwood Sea Wall. This route allows Wildwoods’ vacationers the option of a leisurely, or athletic, bike ride throughout the island.
A special ‘bikes only’ lane is dedicated to cyclists in North Wildwood along some of its major thoroughfares, from 1st to 26th Avenues along Surf Avenue and on the North Wildwood Sea Wall. This lane allows cyclists to safely share the road with traffic and pedestrians.
An early morning bike ride along the 2.5-mile boardwalk is a must for many. Bicycles, e-bikes, and surreys are permitted until 1 p.m. daily along the scenic stretch. It’s the perfect way to watch the sun rise over the ocean and take in the morning’s fresh sea breeze.
